How is massage beneficial?

Massage is a centuries-old technique of providing wholistic and positive based touch to clients. It can provide stimulation to the body’s circulation, respiration, and general immunity with consistent treatment. As humans, we already do not receive enough positive touch in our society, let alone in the span of our lives. Massage encourages blood flow, which translates to improved kidney function. This is the reason therapists advise their clients to drink plenty of water after a massage. Since the body’s circulation is improved, the demand for water is higher due to the kidneys productivity. Drinking more water after a massage encourages the flushing process, which is crucial to avoid more soreness after your session.

With consistent sessions, clients may see an overall improvement of their everyday health. Massage may help in improved range in motion, flexibility, and pain management. However, there can be a potential for massage to “feel worse before feeling better”. In cases of chronic pain, scarring, or post-traumatic stressors being present, massage can increase circulation, which can agitate pain for certain clients. However, with proper communication, informed content, and acknowledgement of contraindications, Verity Massage can help build a customized massage for pain relief, or maximum relaxation.

This is my first massage, what should I do?

Our online intake is thorough and provides the information I need to know, to know your body better. Ask yourself if there are any aches or pains that would be better alleviated with massage, and if there are any areas you prefer not to be focused on. Please arrive to your appointment 10 minutes before the actual start time as so I can ask some questions prior to our session. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes, as you will be asked to disrobe to your comfortability prior to our session. You will be asked to start our session on the massage table, and underneath the blankets, as so you are professionally draped for the entirety of your massage.

Remember, this experience is 100% based on comfortability, and we are not mind readers. If there is anything that you are even slightly uncomfortable with, please tell your therapists as soon as possible, as so they can accommodate you.

How should I dress?

Think of massage as a comfort, not as a luxury service. You want to feel as comfortable as possible, right? It would be wiser not to wear makeup or uncomfortable clothing, considering you will be asked to disrobe to comfortability, or lay face down during your session.

You will be asked to disrobe to your comfort level before the session begins. This is ultimately up to the client just how much they wish to remove, as the experience is 100% based on comfortability. Regardless of what you chose, you will be draped professionally during our session. However, it should be noted that keeping any clothing on during the massage is treated as a hard boundary. For example, if you want to have your back worked on, but still choose to wear a shirt, I will not work underneath the cloth, or provide skin-contact with lotion— the massage will be compression-based only.

What should I do after a massage?

Getting a massage is half of the work of being able to maintain your body—the other half lies in the self-care, afterwards. Since massage encourages your circulatory system, your kidneys will demand a higher water input as to continue flushing the bloodstream of whatever toxins were stirred up in session. What toxins? Think of your average “knot”, or those “bumps” you find when massaging your own shoulders. They feel almost like dirt clods built up in the muscles. When a therapist is able to break them down, they break apart into smaller chunks which are reintegrated into the bloodstream. This is why it is so crucial to drink plenty of water after your session, as to avoid soreness.

Also, should you encounter soreness in an area that was a part of your requested focus, it can be treated with temperature therapy. While heat can feel soothing, it can prolong the aches in said area over time. If you follow up your heat treatment with ice, the surrounding tissues and their circulatory properties contract together and deter the area from increasing its inflammation.

Remember: Ice is nice! Or when using heat, be sure to Close with Cold!

Why is there a cancellation policy?

Since our massages are scheduled by appointment only, if a client should no-call no-show, it would create a space in our schedule which cannot be filled last-minute. At Verity Massage, we provide our clients with a two-day reminder before their appointment time, and also allow rescheduling or cancellation up to 12 hours prior to said massage. Anything within our 12 hour grace period that needs cancelled immediately receives a 50% charge, and if there is a no-call no-show, it increases to a 100% charge.
